About Us

My passion for painting is rooted in my love for American history and the gentle farm country of the midwest. As a child my parents brought us on many trips to Civil War battlefields. The architecture and barns had left an everlasting impression on me and later became the focal point of my paintings.

My offset compositions are designed to showcase the vastness of early America and awaken some distant memory we all share. I do not work directly from photographs, however I do photograph and reference them while painting. I feel that it’s the artist’s responsibility to assemble different ideas to create a single story.

I work in a contemporary realism style and while most of the painting is sky, I keep the viewer interested with the detail and textures of the buildings. I rely on tonalism to create a sense of atmosphere and weather as well as add drama to each painting.

I paint with oils on a variety of surfaces: cotton canvas, linen canvas, wood panel, and board. I mostly paint wet on wet, I find  it easier to create the textures I want that way.

I am mostly self taught as an artist, meaning I did not go to school for it, but I’ve had a handful of artists give me valuable advice at different points in my career.
